Privacy Policy:

Barrister Tahir Ashraf trading as / through 5 CHANCERY LANE COMMERCIAL BARRISTERS (Tahir Ashraf) (“Tahir Ashraf“) operates tahirashraf.co.uk and may operate other websites. It is Tahir Ashraf’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our websites.

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Tahir Ashraf collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Tahir Ashraf’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Tahir Ashraf’s visitors use its website. From time to time, Tahir Ashraf may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

What Does Tahir Ashraf do?

Tahir Ashraf discharges the duties and functions of a barrister in England & Wales. As part of this work, we conduct casework and respond to queries and enquiries, for which we must process personal data of our prospective & existing clients. We also maintain a list for the purpose of contacting those who have been in contact with us and from time to time, sending an electronic newsletter.

How do we process data?

Tahir Ashraf processes data under the lawful basis of necessity of identification of client and avoiding conflicts of interests (as defined by the Bar’s regulatory codes of conduct), consideration of whether to afford the provision of legal advisory and advocacy services. In instances where this lawful basis is not sufficient and explicit consent is required, a member of my office will contact you to establish your consent.

We are committed to ensure that the information we collection and use is appropriate for this purpose, and does not constitute an invasion of your privacy.

Will we share your data with anyone else?

If you have contacted Tahir about a personal legal issue or a legal commercial issue, we may pass your personal data on to a third-party in the course of dealing with you, such as local authorities, government agencies, public bodies, health trusts, regulators or other, relevant, parties. Any third parties that we may share your data with are obliged to keep your details securely, and to use them only for the basis upon which they were originally intended.

In any case, we will not use your personal data in a way that goes beyond your reasonable expectations in contacting us.

For how long will you keep my personal data?

Unless specifically requested by you, our office will hold your personal data for as long as is required by law. Where you make a successful application for employment of work experience, we will only keep your data as required by law. Where you make an unsuccessful application we will keep your data for a maximum of one year from the date of your application.

What rights do I have to my personal data?

At any point while we are in possession of or processing your personal data, you, the data subject, have the following rights:

  • Right to be informed –You have the right to be informed about the collection and use of your personal data, the details of which are outlined in this privacy notice.
  • Right of access – you have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you.
  • Right of rectification – you have a right to correct data that we hold about you that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Right to be forgotten – in certain circumstances you can ask for the data we hold about you to be erased from our records.
  • Right to restriction of processing – where certain conditions apply you have a right to restrict the processing of your data.
  • Right of portability – you have the right to have the data we hold about you transferred to another organisation.
